Many students will need to work part-time while attending university. Typically, most universities recommend that full-time students work no more than 12 hours per week. The wisdom in suggesting a maximum of 12 hours per week is that anything exceeding this number of hours has been shown to affect student’s ability to give their best to their academics.

Where are the part-time jobs?

The University of Toronto provides current students access to a significant database of available part-time positions. The Career Centre, for example, regularly list more than 10,000 part-time positions annually. Most of these positions are in educational services, business services, retail, arts, recreation, social services and finance and are located across the GTA.

In addition, the University’s Ontario Work Study Program lists more than 900 positions on campus each year for students in need of financial assistance. These positions are very relevant to the work done by campus departments and will provide many students the opportunity to develop skills related to their specific career interests.
