The University of Toronto enjoys a rich tradition of athletic excellence and continually strives to enhance the life of its community by providing high quality sport, physical activity and instruction. Our goal is to meet the interests and needs of our students, faculty and staff through a variety of athletic and recreational programs, including: fitness training, recreational sports, physical education, and athletics.


St. George Facilities


Athletics Centre

The Athletic Centre (AC) is located on the south-east corner of Harbord Street and Spadina Avenue. All full-time and part-time students are automatically members of the AC through payment of UofT incidental fees. A valid UofT student card is required for admission to the AC; entrance to the facility will not be granted without it.

The AC is an enormous facility with spaces and programs for students at all levels of physical skill and activity. Spaces include two swimming pools; a 200m indoor track; 10 squash courts; eight gymnasia; a strength and conditioning centre: indoor tennis courts; a multi-purpose court for badminton, basketball, and volleyball; a dance studio; a cardio training area; a stretch area; fencing salle; golf cages; and a gymnastics gym.

Detailed information about the AC’s programs, services, and facilities is found in the AC Guide, published in September and available around campus. All information, including online recreational class registration is also available on the Athletic Centre Web site.

Students also have access to services at the AC including: The David L. Macintosh Sports Medicine Clinic, personal training, fitness testing and nutrition consultations.

Hart House

The Hart House Athletics Facilities are open 365 days a year, the fitness wing features a pool, indoor track, 3 squash courts and gymnasium. There is a full range of the latest exercise and weight equipment. Rather take a class? Choose the one that is right for you from aquafit to yoga. Fitness assessments and personal trainers. Spacious, modern locker facilities and towel service.


The Centre for Physical Education at UTM


The UTM facilities include a Fitness Centre with cardio and strength training, the “Fit Stop” circuit room, indoor rowing boathouse, a teaching/dance studio, gymnasium, three squash courts, four tennis courts, beach volleyball courts, outdoor basketball courts, campus biking paths, playing fields and beautiful grounds for walking, jogging and cycling.

There are many ways to participate:

  • Casual recreational play in a variety of gym and field games (eg. badminton, softball, squash, tennis and table tennis) and running clubs
  • Instructional classes in golf, racquet sports, tai chi, yoga, martial arts and self defence, as well as many forms of dance
  • Fitness classes for all levels, with everything from hi/lo combo to step aerobics and bike fit
  • Individual fitness, cardio and strength training
  • Leagues, special events and tournaments for coed, men and women in all your favourite sports
  • Competitive teams that pay in the UofT-wide Intramural league with other Colleges and Faculties, as well as some exhibition games against community colleges and other universities
  • Extramural Tournaments against OCAA College’s top Intramural athletes
  • UofT Varsity sports are open to all students. UTM offers its own Varsity Rowing program
  • Athletic Council: In addition to the Centre’s activities, the University of Toronto at Mississauga Athletic Council (UTMAC) is a student society that organizes and promote various social, athletic and recreational activities. Visit UTMAC on-line.


University of Toronto at Scarborough Athletics

UTSC athletic facilities include: double gymnasium, weight training center (THE KEY), Fitness Centre (Cardio Theatre) spinning room, teaching studio, 7 squash courts, 11 outdoor tennis courts, saunas, indoor golf cage, and 3 outdoor playing fields in a natural setting on the edge of the Highland Creek Valley.

UTSC athletics offers opportunities to participate in:

  • Co-ed and friendship-based inter-house leagues which include soccer, ball hockey, touch football, three-on-three basketball, cricket, and volleyball
  • Instruction in everything from Yogalates to Golf to Latin Dance to Jiu Jitsu
  • Regular fitness and step classes
  • Competitive sports through men’s and women’s intramural teams
  • Casual recreation in basketball, squash, table tennis, tennis, soccer
  • Personal training, nutrition counselling and fitness development through state -of-the-art cardio machines and weight training facilities
