The University of Toronto community includes the availability of campus housing and childcare, as well as a number of other services to assist student families.

Family Care Office

The Family Care Office at the University of Toronto provides free confidential information, guidance, referrals and advocacy for students, staff, faculty and their families. You can take advantage of free workshops, support groups and seminars. Our Resource Centre contains practical information on a broad range of family care issues, from pregnancy and infant care to lesbian and gay parenting, from special needs children to caring for elderly family members. The Family Care Office promotes an inclusive definition of family that embraces the diverse family structures that make up the University community.

Student Family Housing

Housing for students and their families is available at both the St. George and UTM campuses. At St. George, there are 713 unfurnished bachelor, one and two bedroom units in two 20-storey high-rise towers located at 30 and 35 Charles St. W. Priority is given to couples, couples with children and single parents. Applications are available on-line and at the Student Housing Service (Koffler Student Services Centre). While many students can be housed within one to two years of their application, this is only an average, and the length of wait depends on many variables, the most important of which is the supply of vacant apartments in any given month.

At UTM, there are 84 two-bedroom unfurnished apartments, suitable for two children, in a modern, well-kept townhouse complex. First priority is given to families. One wheelchair accessible apartment is available. Call 905-828-5342.

Child Care Centres

The on-campus child care centres are staffed by professionally qualified early childhood educators. Each centre is separately incorporated as a not-for-profit and is licensed by the Province of Ontario. Child care subsidies are available. All of the centres give priority to University of Toronto families. To enroll, contact each centre directly to be placed on its waiting list.

Please note that the waiting lists for the U of T child care centres are very long and so parents are advised to apply early. If you need assistance with finding alternative child care arrangements while waiting for an on-campus child care spot, please contact our office.
