NEWS RELEASE:

New CRTC licensing framework for digital pay and specialty television services will bridge changeover from analog to digital distribution

DECISIONS:

2000-7 Okanagan Skeena Group Limited, Prince Rupert, etc., BC; Shaw Cablesystems Ltd., Calgary, AB; Look Communications Inc., Barrie, Belleville, etc., ON; Rogers Cablesystems Ontario Limited and Rogers Cable Inc. (formerly Rogers Cablesystems Limited), Ajax, Metropolitan Toronto/ Downsview, Kitchener/Grand River, etc., ON; Shaw Cablesystems Ltd., Barrie, Barrie South Shore etc., ON; Cogeco Cable Inc., Hamilton/Stoney Creek, etc., ON; Bell Satellite Services Inc., doing business under the name of Bell ExpressVu, across Canada; Rogers Cable Inc. 2000-8 The Sports Network, across Canada. DENIED - Authority to operate a repeat channel that would rebroadcast TSN programming from the previous seven days, on a separate channel.

2000-9 CHUM Limited, across Canada. DENIED - Amendment to the broadcasting licence for the national specialty television programming service MuchMusic to establish up to five repeat channels.

NOTICES:

2000-6 Licensing framework policy for new digital pay and specialty services. Summary – This notice sets out a framework for licensing new digital Canadian programming services. The framework will enhance diversity and choice for viewers, in the current and evolving digital distribution environment.

2000-7 Revised lists of eligible satellite services. The list of Part 3 eligible satellite services appended to this notice has been amended. The Part 2 list and the list of DTH eligible services are appended for convenience. These three lists supersede the lists appended to Public Notice CRTC 1999-166-1 dated 15 October 1999.

2000-8 Teleglobe. TN 575. APPROVED. Addition of Ghana, Guinea and Zimbabwe to the list of destinations of the Globesat service. Eff. Date = 21.01.2000.

2000-9 Teleglobe. TN 576. APPROVED. Introduction, from 1 February to 31 July 2000, of four different promotions to a total of 26 destinations, and a discount plan applicable to every new order placed under the promotional offering.
