NEWS RELEASE:

The CRTC sets out the consultation process and seeks public input:   What steps should be taken to ensure that canadians benefit from the widest possible range of french-language broadcasting services in minority francophone communities?

DECISIONS:

2000-170-1 Campus Radio Saint John Inc., University of New Brunswick – Saint John, Saint John, New Brunswick. Decision CRTC 2000-170 should have referred to University of New Brunswick - Saint John instead of University of Saint John.

2000-171 Télécâble Provincial inc., La Pêche and Hull-West (including parts of Wakefield, Farm Point and Chelsea), Quebec. APPROVED – Acquisition of the assets of the cable distribution undertaking serving La Pêche and Hull-West (including parts of Wakefield, Farm Point and Chelsea) from Câblevision Gatineauval inc. The licence will expire 31 August 2006.

2000-71 Pelmorex Communications Inc. To amend its licence for The Weather Network/MétéoMédia to provide an All Channel Alert (ACA) service to broadcasting distribution undertakings (BDUs) across Canada. Deadline for intervention:  5 July 2000.

2000-72 Clarification of the "first come, first served" policy for exempt programming services.

2000-73 The Commission has received applications from cable licensees requesting authority for Class 1 and Class 2 systems. Deadline for intervention:  5 July 2000.

2000-74 Call for comments concerning Order in Council P.C. 2000-511 and Public Notice CRTC 2000-38. Deadline for intervention:  31 July 2000.

2000-75 Telecommunications fees

ORDERS:

2000-500 Bell Canada TN 6401. The Commission approves, subject to changes, Bell Canada Tariff Notice 6401 and a standard Agreement for the Provision of 9-1-1 Emergency Service to Centrex Resellers. The Commission clarifies the responsibilities of incumbent and competitive local exchange carriers and resellers for providing end-customer information to the 9-1-1 database.

2000-501 Call-Net. Reference:   8626-S2-10/98. Cross-border Internet traffic. Call-Net's contribution exemption application is given final approval and applications for such circuits are not required in the future.

2000-502 TCI TN 214. The Commission denies TCI's proposed Payphone card promotion.
