NEWS RELEASE:

The CRTC calls for licence applications for an ethnic television service in the Greater Vancouver Area

DECISIONS:

2001-144 Diffusion communautaire Baie des Chaleurs inc., Carleton and Paspébiac, Quebec. APPROVED – Renewal of the licence for Type B community radio programming undertaking CIEU-FM Carleton and its transmitter CIEU-FM-1 Paspébiac, from 1 March 2001 to 31 August 2004. DENIED – Request to devote at least 25% of its programming to spoken word programming during the 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. time period.

2001-145 Radio Bellechase, Lac Etchemin, Armagh, Quebec. APPROVED – Renewal of the licence for Type B community radio programming undertaking CFIN-FM Lac Etchemin and its transmitter CFIN-FM-1 Armagh, from 1 March 2001 to 31 August 2004.

2001-146 Radio communautaire F.M. de la Haute-Gatineau inc., Maniwaki, Quebec. APPROVED – Renewal of the licence for Type B community radio programming undertaking CHGA-FM Maniwaki, from 1 March 2001 to 31 August 2004.

2001-147 British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Territories. RENEWED - Broadcasting licences for undertakings listed in the appendix to the decision, from 1 March 2001 to 31 August 2001.

2001-148 B.C.I.T. Radio Society, Burnaby, British Columbia. APPROVED – Renewal of the licence for the carrier current radio programming undertaking CFML Burnaby, from 1 March 2001 to 31 August 2007.

2001-149 Simon Fraser Campus Radio Society, Burnaby, British Columbia. APPROVED – Renewal of the licence for the carrier current radio programming undertaking CJSF Burnaby, from 1 March 2001 to 31 August 2007.

2001-150 Radio CFXU Club, Antigonish (St. Francis Xavier University). APPROVED – Renewal of the licence for CFXU Antigonish, a student carrier current radio programming undertaking serving the campus and adjacent residences of St. Francis Xavier University, from 1 March 2001 to 31 August 2007.

2001-151 Lifestyle Television (1994) Limited, Across Canada. APPROVED – Renewal of the broadcasting licence issued to Lifestyle Television (1994) Limited for the national English-language specialty television service known as "WTN", from 1 March 2001 to 31 August 2007. DENIED – Proposal to increase the proportion of U.S. programming broadcast on the service.

2001-152 Life Network Inc., Across Canada. APPROVED – Renews, with minor amendments, the broadcasting licence issued to Life Network Inc. for the national English-language specialty television service known as "Life Network", from 1 March 2001 to 31 August 2007. DENIED – Proposal to reduce the Canadian programming expenditures for Life Network.

2001-153 Showcase Television Inc., Across Canada. APPROVED – Renewal of the broadcasting licence issued to Showcase Television Inc. for the national English-language specialty television service known as "Showcase", from 1 March 2001 to 31 August 2007. DENIED - Request to be relieved of the commitment not to air any first-run broadcasts of programs produced by a Showcase shareholder.

2001-154 591810 B.C. Limited (Country Music Television), Across Canada. APPROVED – Renewal of the broadcasting licence issued to 591810 B.C. Limited (Country Music Television) for the national English-language specialty programming undertaking known as Country Music Television (CMT) from 1 March 2001 to 31 August 2007. APPROVED – Reduction in the minimum amount of all programming that must consist of music videos from 90% to 70%. DENIED, by majority vote – Proposal to charge a monthly fee when CMT is distributed as part of the basic service by broadcasting distribution undertakings such as cable systems. ENIED – Request to introduce a definition of music video programs.

NOTICES:

2001-31 Report to the Governor in Council on the earliest possible establishment of over-the-air television services that reflect and meet the needs of the multicultural, multilingual and multiracial population of the Greater Vancouver Area.

2001-32 An ethnic television programming undertaking to serve Vancouver, British Columbia.

ORDER:

2001-172 The Commission approves a SaskTel's request to amend its Support Structure License Agreement by including Section 12.12 and Schedule A; amend the Microlink Service Agreement and Schedule A by clarifying Clauses 2.1(b), 9 and 12; amend the Centrex Data Service Agreement and Schedule A by removing Clause 1(b) and revising Clauses 11 and 15; and amend the Private Line Agreement by adding a note to the contract and schedule.
