News Release:

The CRTC approves nine new non-Canadian satellite services and begins a process to review its approach to authorizing non-Canadian third-language services

2004-53 Review of the approach to assessing requests to add non-Canadian third-language services to the lists of eligible satellite services for distribution on a digital basis – Call for comments. The Commission invites comments that address the issues and questions set out in this notice. The Commission will accept comments that it receives on or before 13 October 2004. [.pdf]

Telecom Decision:

2004-47 The Commission establishes a notification process applicable to Aliant Telecom Inc., Bell Canada, MTS Communications Inc., Saskatchewan Telecommunications and Télébec, Limited Partnership (collectively, Bell Canada et al.) and TELUS Communications Inc. and TELUS Communications (Québec) Inc. (collectively, TCI) in instances where the last pay telephone in a community is scheduled for removal. The Commission finds that Bell Canada et al. and TCI are unjustly discriminating against deaf consumers in the provision of pay telephone service contrary to subsection 27(2) of the Telecommunications Act. The Commission directs Bell Canada et al. and TCI to implement a teletypewriter upgrade program for certain pay telephones. Reference: 8650-C90-01/01 and 8665-C12-18/02.

Telecom Order:

2004-233 The Commission approves an application by Bell Canada, dated 9 June 2004, to withdraw General Tariff item 3770, Channel Discounts (Telpak), volume discounts associated with TransCanada interexchange voice grade channels. Reference: TN 6821. Eff. date = 15.07.04.
