NOTICES:

2000-177 Rogers Cable Inc., Pickering, Richmond Hill and Toronto, Ontario. For authority, under subsection 23(2) of the Broadcasting Distribution Regulations, to distribute ethnic audio programming services on analogue audio and digital video channels, on cable distribution systems, in markets where there is already at least one over-the-air ethnic radio service. Shaw Cablesystems Company and Shaw Cablesystems (SMB) LTD., Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta and Winnipeg (part of), Manitoba. For authority, under subsection 23(2) of the Broadcasting Distribution Regulations, to distribute ethnic audio programming services on analogue audio and digital video channels, on cable distribution systems in markets where there is already at least one over-the-air ethnic radio service. Deadline for intervention: 26 January 2001

2000-162-1 Proposed exemption order for small cable systems, Extension of deadline for comments. In Public Notice CRTC 2000-162, the Commission invited comments on a proposed exemption order that would exempt from licensing requirements any system that provides cable service to fewer than 2,000 subscribers and serves communities with populations of less than 10,000. The new deadline for comments is 31 January 2001.

2000-163-1 Licensing cable undertakings – a regional approach, Extension of deadline for comments. In Public Notice CRTC 2000-163, the Commission called for comments on issues related to the implementation of a regional approach for licensing cable systems. The new deadline for comments is 31 January 2001.

2000-164-1 Review of certain aspects of the regulation of cable undertakings, Extension of deadline for comments. In Public Notice CRTC 2000-164, the Commission invited comments on certain aspects of its regime for licensing and regulating cable distribution undertakings. The new deadline for comments is 31 January 2001.

2000-165-1 Proposed review of the Commission’s position regarding ownership of discretionary programming undertakings by cable broadcasting distribution undertakings, Extension of deadlines for comments and replies. In Public Notice CRTC 2000-165, the Commission invited comments on a number of matters pertaining to its position on cable/discretionary service cross-ownership.

2000-178 Application to the Commission by Canadian Satellite Communications Inc. pursuant to part VII of the CRTC Telecommunications Rules of Procedure. Reference: 8622-S28-01/00.

ORDERS:

2000-1185 General Tariff approved on an interim basis with modifications for QuébecTel Alizé Inc. Reference: TN 1.

2000-1186 The Commission approves on an interim basis revised province-wide 9-1-1 rates for Bell Canada, MTS Communications Inc., NBTel Inc. and TELUS Communications Inc. Reference: Bell Canada TN 6541, MTS TN 439, NBTel TN 854 and TCI TN 321.

2000-1187 The Commission approves the introduction of a new area code in the region currently served by area code 514. The new area code will be implemented in an "overlay" of all exchanges in the 514 region. Existing customers in the 514 area code will retain their current telephone numbers but will need to begin to include the area code when dialing local calls starting on 18 January 2002. Once the new area code is implemented on 7 June 2003, numbers in the new area code will be made available. Reference: 8698-C12-10/00.
