NEWS RELEASE:

MTS recovers income tax expenses through an interim rate increase

NOTICE:

2000-108 MTS Communications Inc. – Recovery of 2000 and 2001 income tax expense. Reference: 8661-C12-04/00. This public notice seeks input to determine the rate increases necessary to recover MTS Communications Inc.'s income tax expense for the years 2000 and 2001.

ORDERS:

2000-675 Bell Canada TN 6466. Bell Canada rate increases approved for mailboxes and Ident-A-Call. The Commission approves, by majority decision, Bell Canada's request to increase the monthly rates for fully-integrated mailboxes from $6 to $7 for residences and from $9 to $10 for businesses. It also approves increases for partially-integrated mailboxes from $4.50 to $5.50 for residences and from $5.95 to $6.95 for businesses. It also approves rates for Ident-A-Call from $3 to $5 for residences and from $5 to $7 for businesses. Eff. date = 21.08.2000.

2000-676 TCI TN 4. CRTC denies TELUS application to provide subscriber information to law enforcement agencies. The CRTC denies a proposed TELUS Communications Inc. tariff that would provide, pursuant to a court order, confidential subscriber information to law enforcement agencies (LEAs) and wiretaps. The Commission finds that this aspect does not involve telecommunications services as defined under the Telecommunications Act. The tariff would also have allowed LEAs to obtain non-confidential reverse directory information.

2000-677 MTS. Reference: 8661-M3-01/00 and Tariff Notices 403, 404, 405, 406, 407, 408, 409, 410, 411 and 412. MTS Communications Inc. - Interim rate increases to recover income tax expense. The Commission approves, on an interim basis, MTS Communications Inc.'s proposed $3 increase to basic local residential service rates as well as various increases to other service rates. These interim increases are effective 1 August 2000 and will be reviewed in a follow-up proceeding initiated today.
