What's New - March 20, 2000

The CRTC has implemented a one-numbering system for its broadcasting and telecommunications decisions and notices. All CRTC decisions and notices will now be numbered in sequence. We hope that this will make it easier for you to access our documents.

INFORMATION:

CRTC - Public Participation Benefits Everyone!

2000-76 Câblevision du Nord de Québec inc., Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec. DENIED, by majority vote - Application for relief from the requirements of section 29 of the Broadcasting Distribution Regulations.

2000-77 Regina Cablevision Co-operative, Regina, Saskatchewan. APPROVED, by majority vote - Application for relief from the requirements of section 29 of the Broadcasting Distribution Regulations.

2000-79 OK Radio Group Ltd., Sooke, British Columbia. APPROVED - Addition of a transmitter at Sooke.

2000-80 Crossroads Television System, Hamilton, Burlington, St. Catharines and Toronto, Ontario. DENIED - Request to amend CITS-TV's condition of licence that would allow it to extend to midnight the period when it must broadcast 12 of its 20 hours of balance programming each week.

NOTICE:

2000-43 The Sports Network (TSN), Across Canada. To amend the broadcasting licence for the national English-language specialty programming undertaking. The licence held by TSN for the national English-language specialty programming undertaking is currently subject to conditions of licence related to industry codes on gender portrayal and the depiction of violence. This application requests that the current conditions be replaced by "suspensive" conditions on the same matters, meaning that the application of the conditions would be suspended, so long as TSN remains a member in good standing of the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council. The requested change requires an amendment to TSN's licence to replace conditions of licence #7 and #9. Deadline for intervention:  25 April 2000.

ORDER:

2000-208 Commission denies MetroNet Communications Group's request to modify the imputation test. Reference:  8622-M15-05/99. The Commission denies AT&T Canada's (formerly MetroNet Communications Group Inc.'s) application, which sought changes to the pricing test applied to the local services provided by the telephone companies to prevent anti-competitive pricing. Under AT&T Canada's proposal, new rates for local services in urban areas would have to exceed a price floor established using the same pricing rules that currently apply to local service rates in rural areas. The Commission concludes that AT&T Canada's application seeks to review and vary Telecom Decision CRTC 97-8, but it has not seen sufficient evidence to amend that decision.
