Application 2004-0561-4
Public Hearing in the National Capital Region

|
CBGA-FM Matane – New transmitter in Sainte-Anne-des-Monts
|
1. |
The Commission approves the
application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) to amend the
broadcasting licence for the radio programming undertaking CBGA-FM
Matane in order to operate an FM transmitter in Sainte-Anne-des-Monts to
broadcast CBGA-FM’s programming, and to delete the existing AM
transmitter CBGA-7 Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, Quebec. |
2. |
The FM transmitter will replace the
existing CBGA-7 Sainte-Anne-des-Monts transmitter, which operates on the
AM band. The new transmitter will operate at 101.1 MHz (channel 266C)
with an average effective radiated power of 49,800 watts. |
3. |
The new transmitter will improve the
quality of the CBC’s French-language radio service in this municipality
as well as in a number of localities on the south shore of the Gulf of
St. Lawrence. |
4. |
The Commission did not receive any
interventions in connection with this application. |
5. |
The licensee is authorized, by condition
of licence, to simulcast the programming of CBGA-FM Matane on the
CBGA-7 transmitter for a transition period of three months following the
commencement of operation of the new FM transmitter. The licensee must
then cease operation of its AM transmitter CBGA-7 Sainte-Anne-des-Monts. |
6. |
The Department of Industry (the Department)
has advised the Commission that, while this application is conditionally
technically acceptable, it will only issue a broadcasting certificate
when it has determined that the proposed technical parameters will not
create any unacceptable interference with aeronautical NAV/COM services. |
7. |
The Commission reminds the applicant that,
pursuant to section 22(1) of the Broadcasting Act, no licence may
be issued until the Department notifies the Commission that its
technical requirements have been met, and that a broadcasting
certificate will be issued. |
8. |
The transmitter must be operational at the
earliest possible date and, in any event, no later than 24 months from
the date of this decision, unless a request for an extension of time is
approved by the Commission before 7 March 2007. In order to ensure that
such a request is processed in a timely manner, it should be submitted
in writing at least 60 days before this date. |
