Legal and Notary Services

Canadian consular officials abroad have authority under the Canada Evidence Act to perform a variety of legal and notary services. These services include:

A fee is charged for the services provided, starting at C$50 per service. For more information, consult the Consular Fees section.

Officials do not provide legal services in the sense of offering advice with respect to legal issues or representing persons before the courts.

For further information, consult the Consular Fees section or contact the nearest Canadian government office abroad. Some Canadian government offices abroad can provide a list of local lawyers who may offer legal and notary services to Canadian travellers. This list may also be found on their Web sites.
