The Commission approves the application by CTV Television Inc. on behalf of Newfoundland Broadcasting Company Limited (NBCL), for an amendment to the latter’s current condition of licence pertaining to network affiliation.

NBCL is the licensee of the English-language television station CJON-TV St. John’s and its transmitters elsewhere in Newfoundland. The licensee, owned independently of CTV Television Inc., is subject to an existing condition requiring the licensee to operate its broadcasting undertaking as part of the network operated by CTV Television Network Ltd.

In Decision CRTC 2001-506 of today’s date, the Commission has issued a licence to CTV Television Inc. to carry on a new television network for the purpose of providing programming to CJON-TV. Accordingly and as proposed, the Commission amends the licence for CJON-TV by deleting the existing condition relating to network affiliation and replacing it with the following:

The licensee shall operate this broadcasting undertaking as part of the network operated by CTV Television Inc.
