NOTICE:

2001-34 The CRTC is seeking public input in its review of Canadian telemarketing rules. Telemarketing has prompted controversy among consumers and business owners for a number of years. Order CRTC 2001-193 , released today, extends the existing telemarketing rules to apply uniformly to all telecom service providers across the country. This Public Notice takes the process one step further by inviting Canadians to comment on how well those rules meet their needs, and whether changes are required. Reference:  8665-C12-13/01.

ORDERS:

2001-193 The CRTC is extending the telemarketing restrictions to all wireline, wireless and resale providers of telecom services and their customers. Telemarketing restrictions have historically been issued according to geography and service provider category, resulting in a patchwork application of rules across Canada. Those rules are no longer contingent upon geography or the type of service provider. Instead, this order provides for applying the telemarketing regulations to all telecom service sectors in all locations. Reference:  8665-C12-09/00.

2001-194 The Commission approves SaskTel's request to introduce the following promotional campaigns open to new residential and single line business customers: Name Display Spring 2001 Promotion and Call Display Spring 2001 Promotion from 15 March 2001 to 15 May 2001which waives the service connection charge and the rental charge for this service for two months; and Visual Call Waiting April 2001 Promotion for the month of April 2001 which waives the service connection charge and the rental charge for this service for one month. The Commission also approves the tariff pages withdrawing the promotions upon their completion. Reference:  TN 13.
