CRTC makes life easier for small cable companies

DECISIONS:

2001-259-1 Corporation Les Affaires Étudiantes du Cégep de Sainte-Foy, Sainte-Foy, Quebec. The Commission hereby corrects Decision CRTC 2001-259 dated 7 May 2001, which approved an application for a broadcasting licence for a new developmental French-language FM campus radio programming undertaking at Sainte-Foy. The decision should have indicated that the station would broadcast on channel 245LP rather than on channel 254LP.

2001-289 Corus Entertainment Inc. Application No. 2001-0579-3 – APPROVED – Corporate reorganization – Transfer of all issued and outstanding shares of Mount Royal Holding Inc. from 605638 B.C. Ltd. and 606704 B.C. Ltd. to Corus Entertainment Inc. Letter available in "hard copy" version only at the CRTC Public Examination Room (819) 997-2429. An electronic version will be available in the near future.

2001-290 Canadian Broadcast Corporation. Application No. 2001-0573-5 – APPROVED – Extension to 16 November 2001 of the time limit to implement the FM transmitter at Fermont. 2001-291 The Partners of Canal Indigo, Across Canada. APPROVED - Deletion of the requirement that the licensee meet the minimum ratios of Canadian to non-Canadian programming on a per channel basis.

2001-292 Viewer’s Choice Canada Inc., Eastern Canada. APPROVED - Deletion of the requirement that the licensee meet the minimum ratios of Canadian to non-Canadian programming on a per channel basis.

NOTICES:

2001-59 Changes to the Commission’s approach to cable undertakings – Proposed exemption for cable systems with fewer than 2,000 subscribers, and implementation of a regional licensing model.

2001-60 The CRTC is seeking public input for its review of the confidentiality provisions applicable to most Canadian telecom carriers. This public notice invites Canadians to comment on how well the current rules meet their privacy needs and if any changes are required. Among other things, the Commission seeks comment on whether the written consent of customers should continue to be required in order to allow carriers and their affiliates to share customer information. ORDERS:

2001-432 The Commission approves, on a final basis, Tariff Notice 10 submitted on behalf of Maritime Tel & Tel Limited to introduce the following small business bundles:  Bundle # 1 consists of a Centrex access, three additional features, an 800 number and long distance discounts; and Bundle # 2 includes a Centrex access, three additional features, an 800 number, long distance discounts and Internet services. 2001-433 The Commission approves Bell Canada's request to provide the call completion portion of its automated directory and call completion service for United States southbound calling. Reference:  TN 6581. Eff. date = 05.06.01.
