CRTC renews CTV and Global's Licences - More quality programming and services

DECISIONS:

2001-457 Licence renewals for the television stations controlled by CTV. The Commission renews the licences for the television stations controlled by CTV for a seven year term. The licence renewal applications for these stations were considered at the 17 April 2001 public hearing held in the National Capital Region. A list of conditions of licence common to all stations controlled by CTV is set out in Appendix 2 to the decision.

2001-457-1 CTV Television Inc., Atlantic Region. APPROVED – Renewal of the licence for the satellite to cable programming undertaking known as Atlantic Satellite Network, from 1 September 2001 to 31 August 2008.

2001-457-2 CTV Television Inc., Halifax and Sydney, Nova Scotia; Moncton and Saint John, New Brunswick. APPROVED – Renewal of the licences for the television programming undertakings and their transmitters listed in the decision, from 1 September 2001 to 31 August 2008.

NOTICE:

2001-88 Representation of cultural diversity on television – Creation of an industry/community task force. The Commission calls upon the Canadian Association of Broadcasters to prepare an action plan for the creation of a task force. The task force, to consist of representatives of the broadcasting industry and community groups, will be responsible for examining, and finding ways to improve, the representation of Canada’s cultural diversity on television.

2001-616 The Commission denies Bell Canada's applications to introduce 112/128 kilobit per second access services under the digital channel services (DCS) and digital network access (DNA) service. Reference: Bell TNs 6593 and 736 (NST).

2001-617 The Commission approves the application by TELUS Communications Inc. to revise Item 81 C-2 of TCBC's Special Assembly Tariff, such that the item will refer to General Tariff CRTC 1005, Item 447, regarding the Bipolar Eight Zero Substitution (B8ZS) coded signal option service. Reference: TCBC TN 4149.
