Public Notice CRTC 2001-112
|
|
Ottawa, 1 November 2001 |
|
The Commission has received the following application: |
1. |
Across Canada
Application No. 2001-0770-8 |
|
Application by CANADIAN SATELLITE COMMUNICATIONS INC. to amend
the licence of its national satellite relay distribution undertaking
(SRDU). |
|
For SRDU operators, the Commission’s current practice consists
of authorizing the distribution of specific individual Canadian
television and radio signals on a case-by-case basis and listing
each signal that an SRDU is licensed to distribute in a condition of
licence. In the present application, the licensee proposes that the
Commission authorize Cancom to distribute any licensed Canadian
television and radio signals as an alternative to the Commission’s
current practice of listing each signal. |
|
In its application, Cancom states that this proposed alternative
approach would reflect recent amendments made by the Commission to
the Part 3 List of Eligible Satellite Services (Public Notice CRTC 2001-82) whereas the Commission refers to the distribution of
« the programming service of any licensed television
programming undertaking » instead of listing each authorized
signal separately. Secondly, Cancom states that such an approach
would cut down considerably on the administrative burden on both the
regulator and the licensee associated with changes in SRDU signals. |
|
Cancom states that should the Commission decide that such an
approach is not warranted, then it would ask the Commission to be
authorized to add the following services to the list of signals that
it is authorized for distribution. |
