Acquisition of assets
|
1. |
The Commission approves the application for authority to
acquire the assets of the cable distribution undertaking serving
Whiteman Creek, from Westside Cablevision Ltd., and for a
broadcasting licence to continue the operation of this undertaking. |

Upon surrender of the current licence, the Commission will issue
a Class 3 licence to Shaw Communications Inc., or a subsidiary
designated by Shaw Communications Inc., expiring 31 August
2002, the current expiry date. The operation of this undertaking
will be regulated pursuant to the Broadcasting Distribution
Regulations (the regulations). The licence will be
subject to the condition specified in this decision and to those
conditions specified in the licence to be issued. |

The value of this transaction is $206,000. Based on the evidence
filed with the application, the Commission has no concerns with
respect to the availability or the adequacy of the required
financing. |

The signals that the licensee is authorized to distribute may be
received by direct reception, or from any Canadian broadcasting
distribution undertaking (licensed or exempted) that is authorized
to provide signals to other distributors. |
5. |
It is a condition of licence that, for community
programming and any other programming of a service that it
originates, the licensee adhere to the guidelines on the depiction
of violence in television programming set out in the Canadian
Association of Broadcasters’ Voluntary code regarding violence
in television programming, as amended from time to time and
approved by the Commission. |

The Commission notes that this licensee is subject to the Employment
Equity Act and therefore files reports concerning employment
equity with Human Resources Development Canada.
