Application No. 2006-0196-5
|
|
Application by Rogers Cable
Communications Inc. (Rogers) to amend the licences of its cable
distribution undertakings serving the above-mentioned locations. |
|
The licensee proposes to amend
its licences to authorize these cable systems to distribute one or both
of the audio programming services offered by Canada’s two satellite
subscription radio undertakings. |
|
Rogers intends to offer one or
both of the satellite subscription radio services as part of its digital
offering on these cable systems. |
|
Rogers submitted that the
carriage of these services would significantly enhance the quality and
diversity of the audio programming available on its cable systems on a
digital basis and would enable it to satisfy the audio programming needs
of its customers. Rogers also considered that the addition of one or
both of these services to its digital offering would act as an important
catalyst to encourage its customers to migrate from an analog to a
digital distribution environment. |

Lethbridge, Alberta
Application No. 2006-0381-2 |
|
Application by The Miracle
Channel Association to amend the licence of television programming
undertaking CJIL-TV Lethbridge. |
|
The licensee proposes to amend
its current condition of licence which prohibits it from broadcasting
advertising material, with the following condition: |
|
The licensee will not broadcast advertising material or
commercial messages other than those promoting religious goods and
services.
|
|
The licensee states that
allowing the promotion and sales of goods and services related to
religious subjects broadcast on the station is necessary for its viewers
who expect to be kept informed of the availability of the resources and
how to acquire them. |
|
The licensee asserts that the
sales of resource material and services is important to maintain the
continued operation of the station and notes that its proposed amendment
would not have an adverse effect on other local broadcasters as it would
not sell commercial spots to third parties. |

Squamish, British Columbia
Application No. 2006-0337-5
|
|
Application by Canadian
Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) to amend the licence of radio
programming undertaking CBU Vancouver, British Columbia. |
|
The licensee proposes to add a
FM transmitter at Squamish to broadcast the programming of its Radio One
service originating from CBU Vancouver, in order to continue to serve
the population of Squamish and surrounding areas. |
|
The transmitter would operate
on frequency 98.3 MHz (channel 252A) with an average effective radiated
power of 1,550 watts (maximum effective radiated power of 3,000 watts/antenna
height of -389.53 metres). |
|
The CBC indicates that the
lease for the site of its transmitter CBRU Squamish will be terminated
on 24 July 2006 and it has been unsuccessful to find an alternate
location for its AM transmitter. Therefore, it has concluded that a
change from the AM to the FM band is the most attractive technical and
economical solution. |
|
The CBC indicates that its
Radio One service at Squamish and surrounding areas, received from its
transmitter CBRU, will go off the air as of 24 July 2006. |
