Subject: No increase please

To CRTC, as a Telus customer, I am totally against Telus for wanting to increase residential phone rate up another $3 per month. Here are my reasons:

1) As a giant company like Telus, they are not losing money despite competitions for their long distance services. Telus are making up profits through all these different options being offered like voice mail, call alert.....etc, and I know many of my friends & families do take advantage of these features. These profits should easily even up their lose within their long distance sector.

2) With Telus acquiring Clearnet, they are making more money as well. I know because I own a Clearnet pay-as-you-go cell phone.

With Clearnet I was able to buy a $10 card which is good for 60 days (roughly 2 month), as for Telus, the same $10 card is now good for only 30 days. In terms of profit, Telus is now making $120 per year off me, as oppose to $60 per year before they bought out Clearnet. That is an increase of 100%. I looked into other options but there weren't too many around, an obvious reason why Telus decided to buy out Clearnet cos it's a profitable company. More profit for Telus.

3) With an ever increasing number of cell phone users, Telus will only increase their profit margin year after year. Why are they wanting to charge $3 more per month to a residential phone line, it's monopoly!

I remember paying only $12 per month back in 1984, for my phone line. Of course it isn't a fair comparison because back then, we were told the rate were lower and long distance rate were being used to subsidize residential rate, whether that is the truth.

In conclusion I am just tired of paying for higher phone rate, higher natural gas rate, higher gasoline rate, higher property tax, yet I get the same service year after year.

I do hope this will help to stop further increase by Telus. Thank you, yours sincerely, Yok Kai Lee.
