Dear Secretary General:
We wish to have our objection registered to the application by Telus for
an increase to residential consumers reaching the sum of $35 per month.
This enormous increase will put the residential phone out of the reach
of many Canadians. Many Canadians exist on low monthly incomes and the
phone is an important link to the outside worlds for them.
We note in the application that business customers will not be subject
to an added increase. We find this appalling as businesses can claim
their telephone cost as an expense of doing business. The residential
consumer does not have this luxury.
We note that Telus recently incurred huge costs as they expanded and
bought another company. It appears to us that this application is
somehow linked to this expansion and we are being asked to help finance
this venture of Telus.
We are shareholders of Telus and as such we do not wish this application
by Telus granted by the CRTC.
Yours sincerely,
James G. Swan, Veronica Swan.
