Subject: Telus proposed phone rate increases - October 1, 2001 general public hearings
I'd like to stand up and say that the proposed
application for service rate increases to cover
the cost of extending unspecified service to
unserviced areas and unspecified upgrades to these
areas should be opposed for two reasons. Firstly
these costs appear to be funded by customers who
already have these services in more populated
areas - to the tune of upwards to 25 times more
than who the actual beneficiaries of these
services will be. I believe that if a service
plan is uneconomic, why make everybody pay just so
that more services can be sold by the regulated
company. Secondly, Telus has not specified to us
what services they want to extend to these rural
residents. Are these services for mobile/cell
phone users - like relay stations?
Thanks for listening. Please direct this mail to
the appropriate channels.
