Subject: Re. Local Telephone Service Prices

My main concern re the upcoming "Price Cap Review and Related Issues" review. I am most concerned that every effort should be made to ensure that the prices for local service in Canada remain affordable. This was certainly not the experience in the U.S. with competition and I fear the same will be true in Canada. I was particularly disturbed by the recent decision to subsidize local phone costs across Canada which resulted in ioncreased costs to Bell Canada subscribers.

Also, as these costs rise so too does the amount of GST. As an aside, I strongly disagree with charging GST on essential services.
