News Release February 13, 1998 CRTC CONGRATULATES CABLE COMPANIES OTTAWA-HULL The CRTC publicly recognizes the efforts of cable companies and their employees in providing outstanding service to their communities in Eastern Ontario and parts of Quebec that were struck by what has become known as the Ice Storm of 1998. During the storm, cable operators utilized their community channels as a lifeline service to provide continual updates and bulletins to their communities. In addition, cable companies volunteered their vehicles and staff around the clock to transport necessities to shelters such as firewood and food. The Commission apologizes for having failed to mention the effort of cable operators during the ice storm in an earlier press release which recognized the efforts of other industry players during the ice storm. - 30 - Contact: CRTC Communications Branch, Ottawa, K1A 0N2 Copies are available through our Internet site ( http://www.crtc.gc.ca ) or by contacting the public examination room of any CRTC office.
