News Release March 24, 1998 FRANÇOISE BERTRAND CHALLENGES MONTRÉAL'S MONTRÉAL According to Françoise Bertrand, Chairperson of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, Montréal is fully equipped to play a key role in the emergence of new technology. Current trends in the world of communications are vital to Canada's future and to the future of Montréal, a city imbued with the spirit of the explorers. Mrs. Bertrand delivered this message today at a lunch meeting held by the Montréal Chamber of Commerce. In calling on Montréal to assert its vitality, Mrs. Bertrand took the opportunity to remind her audience of the new approach being taken by the CRTC, which wants to be more of a partner or facilitator for Canadians, consumers and companies in the rapidly changing world of communications. She said that boldness, imagination and dialogue are essential conditions for becoming a key player in a knowledge-based economy. - 30 - Contact: CRTC Communications Branch, Ottawa, K1A 0N2 This document is available in alternative format upon request.
