CRTC DOCUMENTATION CENTRE
OPENS IN TORONTO

OTTAWA-HULL — On Monday, 27 July 1998, the CRTC will open the doors to its new documentation centre located at 55 St. Clair Avenue East, Suite 624 in Toronto. Initially, the hours of operation will be from 9:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. This will allow our Toronto and Southern Ontario clients, including industry players and the general public, direct access to a variety of current CRTC files and documents.

Documents and services available

The new centre will provide access to a number of documents and applications that are currently being considered by the Commission, either under the broadcasting or the telecommunications regime. Specifically, clients will be able to browse through items of national significance, as well as applications that are specific to the Greater Toronto or Southern Ontario areas. Although the new facility will not usually hold any historical information, or applications from other areas of the country, such information will be made available, upon request, within 48 hours.

Facilities will include a library-type area where clients can browse through documents, or access our web site through available computers. If information is needed on particular files or processes, it will be available through direct access to the Commission's toll-free line at 1-877-249-CRTC (2782) or through our web site at http://www.crtc.gc.ca. A printing plant located a few floors down from the centre will offer services that will be billed directly to the clients.

Reaching out

In light of the numerous public hearings scheduled to take place this fall, this documentation centre will provide the public with easier access to the records of these proceedings. If this experimental service proves to be successful, the Commission hopes to provide similar facilities in other areas of the country.
