News Release August 6, 1998 CALL FOR APPLICATIONS TO PROVIDE RADIO SERVICE OTTAWA-HULL The CRTC today announced that it will issue a call for applications to provide radio service to Toronto, once it has concluded with the review of Commission policies affecting non-commercial radio (Public Notice CRTC 1998-85). In Order in Council PC 1998-800, dated 7 May 1998, the Commission was asked to reserve frequency 93.5 MHz or any other appropriate frequency on the FM band and frequency 740 kHz on the AM band, in Toronto. While the Commission recognizes that a call for applications in this market would likely generate a great deal of interest, we consider that such a step would be premature until the radio reviews have been completed. The Commission expects to conclude these reviews in the spring of 1999, at which time a call would be issued. - 30 - Contact: CRTC Communications Branch, Ottawa, K1A 0N2 Copies of today's notice are available through our Internet site ( http://www.crtc.gc.ca ) or by contacting the public examination room of any CRTC office.
