CRTC SEEKS PUBLIC INPUT ON FRENCH-LANGUAGE
BROADCASTING SERVICES OUTSIDE QUEBEC
OTTAWA-HULL The Canadian Radio-television and
Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) is seeking input from Canadians, through a series of
upcoming consultations across Canada, on ways to support French-language broadcasting
services to Francophones outside Quebec.
The public consultations will take place in early fall and
will be followed by an October 18 public hearing in Hull, Québec.
To participate in the public consultations in person, in
writing or by conference call, please contact the CRTC toll-free at 1-877-249-2782 or at
our toll-free TDD number at 1-877-909-2782.
The Issues
The CRTC would like to explore the following questions:
- What do you consider to be the deficiencies and challenges
related to the provision of French-language broadcasting services (radio, television,
specialty services, pay TV) in French linguistic minority communities in Canada?
- What do you consider to be the deficiencies and challenges
on the availability of French-language broadcasting services on the various broadcasting
distribution systems in Canada?
- How can technological progress help meet these challenges?
- How can access to the widest possible range of these
services be encouraged and facilitated in French linguistic minority communities? Should
the Commission adopt a different approach in the Ottawa area?
- How best do we ensure that the diversity of French-language
communities across the country is reflected in the Canadian broadcasting system?
