News Release December 8, 2000 CRTC SEEKS COMMENTS ON ITS POSITION REGARDING OWNERSHIP OF PAY AND SPECIALTY SERVICES BY CABLE COMPANIESOTTAWA-HULL — Today, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) issued a public notice calling for comments on a proposed review of its position regarding ownership of pay and specialty services by cable companies. The CRTC’s position has been to limit and/or prohibit the participation of cable companies, or their affiliates, to hold equity interests in pay and specialty services because of the potential for undue preference in the analog distribution market. In a changing broadcasting environment, the CRTC considers that a review of its position would be appropriate at this time. Accordingly, the CRTC invites comments from interested parties.
