Background
The depletion of telephone numbers is not a new phenomenon. Over the past few years, the CRTC has initiated public processes in other parts of the country to develop and implement relief plans that best suit the needs of each specific area.
In most cases, telephone number depletion results in the addition of new area codes and the introduction of 10-digit dialing. Telephone number depletion is the result of the increased demand for telephone numbers for such things as cellular phones, pagers, fax machines and alarm systems.
