CRTC EXTENDS DEADLINE FOR CANADIANS TO JOIN
TELECONFERENCE ON REVIEW OF LOCAL TELEPHONE SERVICE PRICING RULES
OTTAWA-HULL
— The Canadian Radio-television and
Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has extended the deadline for
interested Canadians to take part in a teleconference to be held on
October 1st, 2001, to provide comments to the panel members
examining local telephone service pricing rules.
Canadians now have until noon EST, Wednesday, September 26th,
2001 to call toll-free 1-877-249-CRTC (2782) to arrange a time to talk at the
October 1st, 2001 teleconference.
The teleconference is part of the CRTC’s proceeding, Price Cap Review
and Related Issues, outlined in Public Notice CRTC 2001-37.
Through this process the CRTC aims, among other things, to extend and
improve local telephone service in remote areas of Canada, ensure that
local telephone service rates remain affordable, and to make sure that
Canada’s telecommunications industry continues to be healthy,
competitive and a world leader.
The CRTC invites those interested to comment on the proposals that have
been submitted on the various issues covered by the proceeding. These
include plans submitted by telephone companies to improve service, as well
as determine rates. More information can be found on the CRTC’s website
at www.crtc.gc.ca.
