LetterFile No.: 8180-8/00 Ottawa, 1 June 2001 BY FACSIMILE Mr. Chris Johnson Dear Mr. Johnson: RE: CLEC Registration of RapidTel Inc. This is in response to your letters dated 6 and 7 June 2001. RapidTel Inc. ("RapidTel") expressed its intent to enter into the local exchange telephone market and offer local exchange switched services in the Toronto, Ontario, downtown core. In order to become a registered Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC), RapidTel must provide information regarding how it has or intends to satisfy the requirements imposed on CLECs in Telecom Decision CRTC 97-8, Local Competition, 1 May 1997 (Decision 97-8). RapidTel is recognized as having met CLEC requirements at this time sufficient to make the further arrangements necessary to allow it to provide local switched services. However, RapidTel is reminded that it may not offer services to the public as a CLEC until all the conditions of Decision 97-8 have been satisfied. You will find attached for your convenience or reference a table prepared by Commission staff summarizing the CLEC obligations defined in Decision 97-8. This table is an unofficial document which is intended as a convenience only, not to be relied upon as an official version of Decision 97-8. RapidTel may be subject to further obligations that the Commission may impose on CLECs from time to time. Yours sincerely, Chaouki Dakdouki Attachment
