WORK PERMIT

If you intend to work temporarily in Canada, you require a work permit and, possibly, a visa.
To assess your admissibility, the following documents are required.
Documents in languages other than English or French MUST be accompanied by a certified translation.

1) Completed application form (IMM1295). Please complete the fillable application form and print it for submission to our office. For ease and speed of processing, we ask that you do not complete the application form by hand.

All applicants are required to complete the Supplementary Information Sheet (click here to download the Supplementary Information Sheet).

If you are a citizen of the following countries, you MUST complete the attached questionnaire(s).  They MUST be submitted with your application for a Work Permit.

We ask that you print clearly your answers using CAPITAL letters in each box. If a question does not apply to you, write N/A meaning "not applicable" in the space provided.


2) A Confirmation of Offer of Employment prepared by your employer and validated by a Human Resources Center in Canada (HRDC Confirmation). For some occupations, a HRDC Confirmation is not required (see attached)
3) "Certificat d'acceptation du Québec" from the Quebec Immigration Service, if your intended work is in the Province of Quebec (contact le Service d'immigration du Québec in New York at (212) 397-0200)
4) A written job offer or contract from your prospective employer in Canada describing your intended position, title, duties, length of employment and salary
5) Letters of reference from current and / or previous employers describing your occupation, your duties, length of employment, etc.
6) Resumé of previous work experience
7) Previous employment contracts
8) Educational, trade or apprenticeship certificates
9) Personal income tax statement / assessment form indicating occupation; or official identification card, or any government document issued to recognize your occupation


APPLICANTS MUST ALSO PROVIDE:
10) Two identical passport photos taken within the last 6 months  (name and date of birth written on the back) for you and for each accompanying family member. Click here for photos specifications.        If photographs do not meet these specifications, no file will be created and the application will be returned to the applicant.

If you wish to have your documents mailed back to you, you should send a prepaid, self-addressed return Express Mail envelope. For the security of your documents, we strongly recommend that you provide return express, registered, or certified mail. We will not return documents using courier services (DHL, FedEX, UPS, etc).
12) For USA citizens, citizens of Bermuda and green card holders, proof of citizenship or USA permanent residency. If you are not a USA citizen or permanent resident or citizen of Bermuda,a valid passport or travel document that guarantees re-entry to the country that issued it AND proof of your present immigration status (USA visa and I-94 card). If you are in Canada, copy of your status documents: entry stamp in passport AND a Worker/Student visa and / or permit.
13) PROCESSING FEE: Your application is subject to a Non-refundable processing fee. Please include with your application a CERTIFIED CHEQUE OR MONEY ORDER in the amount of: US$135 payable to the "Canadian Consulate-General", or
CAD$ 150 payable to the "Receiver General of Canada"
14) A list of ALL countries in which you have lived during the past 12 months indicating the period of time spent in EACH country, including your own.
15) For your common-law partner, "Statutory Declaration of Common-law Union" (IMM 5409) (if applicable)
16) Authority to Release Information to Designated Individuals (IM 5476) (if applicable)

Applications for Work Permit will be processed within 2 to 6 weeks, unless medical examinations are required.

ALL APPLICANTS MUST ENSURE THEY COMPLETE THE APPLICATION FORM, SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION SHEET AND ANY COUNTRY SPECIFIC QUESTIONNAIRE AS SPECIFIED IN THIS WEBSITE.

ONLY properly completed applications with full documentation will be processed. Applications will be processed within two (2) to six (6) weeks, unless medical examinations are required.  Allow extra time for mailing for applications submitted by mail.


CITIZENS AND PERMANENT RESIDENTS OF USA may apply directly at any Canadian Port of Entry having in their possession the required documentation as indicated.

IMPORTANT: Return your application form ONLY when it can be accompanied by ALL documents / information / funds requested. Partial compliance will serve no purpose other than to delay processing.

NOTE: The Consulate is not responsible for any lost or damaged documents.
