Kandahar Air Field
This air field is the headquarters for the NATO Multi National Brigade for Regional Command South, made up of troops from Canada, the U.S., the U.K., the Netherlands, Australia, Estonia and Romania. The brigade is under Dutch command as of November 2006.
Camp Nathan Smith
Located within Kandahar, this camp is the base of the Canadian provincial reconstruction team of 220 people from the Canadian Forces, Foreign Affairs, the Canadian International Development Agency and the RCMP. The camp is named after a Canadian soldier who was killed in a friendly fire incident in 2002.Forward Operating Base Robinson
This Canadian base overlooks a suspected opium smuggling route.

This village on the Arghandab River is the site of a Canadian forward operating base.

Kandahar
Population: 367,600 (2001 est.)
The capital of Kandahar province. Most Canadian troops in Afghanistan are based around this city.
Gumbad
Canadian Forces runs a forward operating base in this village.
Pashmul
A grouping of villages west of Kandahar where Canadian Forces has been focusing reconstruction and development efforts. Many of Canada's casualties in Afghanistan have occurred this area.
Bazar-e Panjwaii
A new two-lane road is being built here with the help of the Canadian provincial reconstruction team.
El Bak
Canadian Forces opened Forward Operating Base Martello in this area on June 10, 2006.
Spin Boldak
This town near the border with Pakistan is the site of a Canadian forward operating base. Thousands of internally displaced persons have passed through refugee camps here since the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan.
Arghandab Lake
This lake is part of the Arghandab River, a 400-kilometre river that flows just north of Kandahar. The river's valley is an important farming area.
Rigestan Desert
The name of this arid plateau region means "country of sand."
