RSS Feeds

RSS subscriptions allow you to keep current on news events, legal decisions and research trends because updates automatically appear in your reader. You can focus on topics that interest you, and in many cases, choose either to scan the provided summaries or to click through to the full text. Viewing your reader is like glancing at the front page of a personalized newspaper, one that only posts headlines that interest you.      

You might want to subscribe to some of the following RSS feeds:

RSS feeds: Libraries 

Some libraries have RSS feeds that will alert you when they acquire new publications in specific fields of study or ranges of the library’s catalogue. Click on the links to subscribe to any of the following news feeds:

Baker Library, Harvard Business School (HBS)

-RSS feeds listed on the right side include feeds for new books and for HBS Working Knowledge, which is resources and data including reviews of business books, HBS publications, and interviews with HBS faculty.  

University of Alberta Libraries

-includes feeds for Winspear Business and Economic News (Winspear Business Reference Library); E-commerce Alert, E-journals, and New Books (law).

The University of British Columbia Library

-feeds allow client to select an entire subject area such as law, or a subject within law.

University of Ottawa Library

-choose French or English; feeds for databases and e-journals.

McMaster University Library

-feeds include new books, and news from McMaster’s different libraries, including Innis for Business.

University of Windsor, Leddy Library, Web Feeds/RSS Feeds

-alphabetically listed feeds for subject areas from the main U. Windsor library.

Washington and Lee University Law Library

-current tables of contents for over 1000 law journals including Canadian, American, and international periodicals.

 

RSS feeds: Journals

To alert you to new research, some journal publishers include RSS feeds for the Table of Contents of current issues of their journals. Click on a link to subscribe to RSS feeds.

Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC)

-feeds include general and regional news, as well as specialized topics.

CNW Group

-news in French and English updated frequently.  

Law Times

-headlines about law in the news. 

Lexis Nexis Canada

-feeds include new titles in case law, new sources added to Quick Law, case digests from the Supreme Court of Canada, summaries of cases from LAW/NET, and news from Lexis Nexis.   

Slaw.ca

-co-operative blog (online journal) about Canadian legal research and technology, directed at lawyers, law librarians, and legal academics and students. 

Workplace News

-covers organizational and legal topics in the workplace. 

 

RSS feeds: Associations, Institutes, and Organizations

Links to RSS updates for national and international organizations related to labour, management, public policy, and law.

Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas) (UK)

-updates from this publicly funded organization in the UK, which has council members from the business, union, and academic sectors.  

Canadian Bar Association (CBA)

-news feeds for both CBA Practice Link and CBA News.

Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives

-choose feeds for national or provincial news, or both (comprehensive), as well as the Alternative Federal Budget, and Trade and Investment news.

International Labour Organization (ILO) (United Nations)

-news feeds available in English, French, and Spanish.

The Fraser Institute

-news, publications, events, commentaries.

Three RSS options from the Institute of Industrial Relations (University of California, Berkeley, CA):

-the Institute of Industrial Relations’ Major Labor News Feeds Blog (online journal).

-Labor Events and Resources Blog (online journal) compiled by staff at the Institute of Industrial Relations Library.

-Labor and Economic News Blog (online journal) compiled by staff at the Institute of Industrial Relations Library.

Labour Start

-“where trade unionists start their day on the net.”

-global labour news; subscribe to “top stories,” or choose feeds for specific countries including Canada, and select preferred language for feeds.  

Queen’s Industrial Relations Centre (Queen’s University, Kingston, ON)

-links to research, commentary, and educational programming in the IR field. 

Trades Union Congress (UK)

-click “News releases” to get a link for RSS news feeds.

Workplace Law Network (UK)

 -UK legal support services for employers. While some items are only available to members who pay for subscriptions, RSS feeds exist for news and case reports.   

 

RSS feeds: Government of Canada

RSS feeds from federal government sources. 

Government of Canada News Room

-click on French or English, and when the main page opens, scroll down the left side of the page to find “Stay in Touch.” Click on “RSS News Feeds,” and select national or regional news feeds.

Parliament of Canada

-click on French or English, and when the main page opens, note the links on the left side of the page for bills before the House of Commons or Senate. Sign up for feeds that track the progress of individual bills.    

Prime Minister’s Office

-click on French or English, and when the main page opens, look on the left side of the page under Media Centre for RSS feeds. Select RSS feeds for news releases, speeches, statements, articles, and notices.

Statistics Canada The Daily

-Statistics Canada’s bulletin for news releases, available in French or English. The link leads to alphabetical subject selections including labour.
