How to Use Search

The search engine used on the PSC Recruitment site uses simple keywords to locate documents.

To Perform a Search:

  1. Enter a single word or, if you are more adventurous, a series of words in the search box; and then press the "Search" button
  2. If your word or series of words appear exactly as typed in a document currently available on the website, a screen will open offering hyperlinks to the occurrences

Important Details:

  • the search engine does not understand "Boolean" entries, meaning that string such as "web or Internet" or "web+Internet" will not be understood

  • the safest searches are the ones that use a single word (e.g. "finance" to find finance-related links). But you may try "financial management" or even "financ" so as to cover both "finance" and "financial" at the same time

  • the engine looks for keywords even in the META tags and in hidden comments

  • there are actually 2 search engines on the recruitment site:

    a) on the main menu page (http://www.jobs-emplois.gc.ca/menu/home_e.htm), the engine will search the entire site for keywords that have been specified

    b) on the job listing page, (http://www.jobs-emplois.gc.ca/menu/alljobs_e.htm), the engine will turn up a list of current job posters containing the specified keyword(s).
