University Partnership Program – Translation Bureau

JOB TITLE: Student in Translation – Bachelor degree level in translation only

NUMBER OF JOBS BEING OFFERED: Varies throughout the year

JOB DESCRIPTION: Please note that only students registered at the bachelor’s degree level in translation will be considered for employment. Translate from French into English, or English into French (according to the language combination of the translation university program in which the students are enrolled), under the supervision of an experienced translator/revisor. The objective is to give students the opportunity to put into practice the principles learned during their studies.

DEPARTMENT/AGENCY: Public Works and Government Services Canada - Translation Bureau

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION OF POSITION: The Translation Bureau has offices mainly in Halifax, Charlottetown, Moncton, Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver. Not all offices will be hiring for the 2006-2007 FSWEP campaign.

THE DEPARTMENT WILL MAKE THE MAJORITY OF REQUESTS FOR REFERRALS BY THIS DATE: February-March for the Summer semester; June-July for the Fall semester; November-December for the Winter semester.

DURATION OF EMPLOYMENT: 8 to 16 weeks

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: Be bilingual and have excellent oral and written communication skills.
For students enrolled in Translation in official languages: French and English.
For students enrolled in Translation in foreign languages: a combination of Spanish and either of Canada's official languages.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Students interested in a position and who are applying under Departmental Code 018 must have successfully completed, at the time of hiring, Practicum I and/or II of the University Partnership Program developed by the Translation Bureau. Students in a translation program who have not completed a practicum under the aforementioned Program may also apply, however not under Code 018.
