Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, you must be studying in Canada, or be a Canadian student
studying abroad, and satisfy the following criteria:
- be a full-time secondary or post-secondary student in an
accredited institution;*
- be currently recognized as having full-time student status in the academic
institution in which you are presently enrolled;*
- be returning to full-time studies for your next academic term;**
- be at least the minimum age to work in the province or territory where
the job exists.
* Part-time students who are recognized by
their academic institution as having a disability are also eligible to
apply.
** For example, assuming a three-term academic year (Fall, Winter and
Summer):
1) A full-time student during the Fall 2005 and Winter 2006 terms who
returns to full-time studies in the Fall 2006 term is eligible;
2) A full-time student during the Winter 2006 and Summer 2006 terms who
returns to full-time studies in the Winter 2007 term is eligible.
While non-Canadians may apply to FSWEP, preference is given to Canadian
citizens. A Canadian citizen is a person who was born in Canada or who
has applied through Citizenship and Immigration Canada and has received
a citizenship certificate.
Note:
Students who are in their final year of academic study and who are not
intending to return to full-time studies are only eligible to work part-time
until the completion of their last full time academic term.
Departments will ask you to provide proof that you meet these requirements.
Part-time students are currently ineligible for the Federal Student
Work Experience Program (FSWEP), but are encouraged to visit the Jobs
Open to the Public Web site for possible federal employment opportunities.
Students with full-time status may be enrolled in a physical academic
environment or through a distance education/on-line program. Those
classified in the distance education/on-line program must be classified
as full-time
by their academic institution.
Re-Employment Criteria
The PSC may authorize the re-employment of a student in an identical
or similar job in the same or another department if he or she meets the
following conditions:
- was initially selected through FSWEP or the CO-OP/Internship
program;
- meets all the requirements of the job;
- continues to meet the eligibility criteria described above; and
- submits an on-line application for employment in the current campaign.
To be considered for re-employment, students must satisfy each of the
above requirements.
