About the PSC

The PSC is an independent agency reporting to Parliament, mandated to safeguard the integrity of the public service staffing system and the political neutrality of the public service.

How do we do this?

Under the Public Service Employment Act (PSEA), the PSC maintains the authority to make appointments to and within the public service. In many cases, the PSC has delegated this authority to deputy heads of departments and agencies.

The PSEA is designed to facilitate the hiring of the right people, when and where that are needed, while respecting the values of fairness, transparency and access.

The PSC also plays an important role in guidance and recourse matters related to the political activities of federal public servants.
