Delegated authorities

In the spirit of the preamble to the new Public Service Employment Act (PSEA), the Public Service Commission (PSC) has maximized the delegation of appointment and appointment-related authorities to deputy heads of federal government departments and agencies. Deputy heads are encouraged to sub-delegate these authorities to as low a level as possible within the public service.

Non-delegated authorities

Under the new PSEA, certain processes continue to be the responsibility of the PSC. These processes are:

• Granting exclusions and extensions under the Public Service Official Languages Exclusion Approval Order;
• Overseeing the political impartiality of the public service; and
• Managing the administration of priority persons.
