A few weeks have already passed since the new Public Service Employment Act (PSEA) came into effect. As a result of the success of the first two series of the “Get Ready” Information Sessions, the Public Service Commission (PSC) is pleased to announce Series Three for spring 2006. The sessions will focus on:

These sessions will benefit corporate staffing advisors and human resources advisors (PEs) who provide advice and guidance to hiring managers. Participants will have an opportunity to increase their understanding of these subject areas through instructional and interactive sessions.

These one-day information sessions will be held in the National Capital Region (NCR) on March 22, 23, 27, 28 and 29. The regional sessions will take place on April 4 in Edmonton and Winnipeg; April 6 in Quebec, Regina and Vancouver; April 10 in Halifax and Montreal (English and French); April 11 in Toronto and Moncton (French); and April 12 in St. John’s (NF) and Moncton (English).

As was the case for the previous series, we will be asking the chiefs of staffing to coordinate the registration process for both the NCR and the regional sessions. Registration forms will be sent under separate cover to the chiefs of staffing. The Canada School of Public Service will handle registrations, for which the deadline is March 8, 2006.

The School will confirm registration individually with participants and inform the chiefs of staffing.

To ensure that all organizations have an opportunity to participate in the NCR sessions, a specific number of places have been set aside for each organization, as follows:

  • Very large organizations (more than 5000 employees) may register up to 20 participants.
  • Large organizations (800 to 5000 employees) may register up to 8 participants.
  • Medium-sized organizations (500 to 800 employees) may register up to 5 participants.
  • Small organizations (50 to 500 employees) may register 3 participants.
  • Very small organizations (fewer than 50 employees) may register 1 participant.

There will also be reserved seating for representatives of the bargaining agents, both in the NCR and in the regions. While we do not anticipate a need to limit participation for the regional sessions, the PSC will monitor the situation and adjust accordingly.

For additional information or clarification regarding the third series of “Get Ready” Information Sessions, please contact the PSC Strategic Staffing Consultant responsible for your organization.

I hope that these information sessions will assist you in ensuring the success of the ongoing implementation of the new PSEA.

Yours sincerely,

Linda Gobeil
Senior Vice-President
Policy Branch
