JobsEtc.ca and JobBank.gc.ca Join Forces

On Sept 23, 2006, the Training and Careers site (JobsEtc.ca) and JobBank.gc.ca. joined forces to offer users a more integrated and enhanced service experience.

Now job seekers can quickly access information and services related to job search, training, and career development from one integrated web site called Job Bank.

What's New
Job Bank now has a new look and many exciting new features :

Job Search:

  • We added more search options to ensure that you get the most relevant results. In addition to searching by keyword, job category or job title, and geographic location, you can now use our advanced search to specify full-time or part-time work, as well as, permanent or temporary work.

In addition to this Job Bank is now offering Canadian job seekers the opportunity to search Federal Government (Public Service Commission) job openings as well as private sector jobs, as part of this new Job Search tool.

My Job Account
We have created a new page called My Job Account which will allow you to access our suite of job search and career tools from one central location. These tools include:

  • Job Match which allows the client to create a job profile outlining their skill set and advertise this profile to prospective employers on Job Bank. Job Match also allows the client to match their profile against currently advertised jobs in Job Bank and receive a list of job ads that match their skills (Login required).
  • Job Alert allows the client to receive, by e-mail, a list of job openings that match their search criteria (Login required). Job Alert is now presented as part of Job Bank.
  • Resume Builder allows the client to create and save up to 5 resumes - complete with tips, and a selection of different resume layouts (Login required). Resume Builder is now presented as part of Job Bank.
  • And the Career Navigator which provides the client with information on a selected occupation's, wages, number of jobs available, required skills and employment prospects to help them make an informed career decision (Login required only if the user wishes to save their quiz results).

Job Search Tips
Accessible from the left navigation bar throughout the site, this content (formally part of JobsEtc.ca) offers valuable information on job search techniques, such as how to market your self, locating unadvertised jobs and wage subsidy programs. It also allows clients to explore other ways of working, such as self-employment, telework, or volunteer work.

Other Job Sites
In order to assist clients with their job search, our new service will also allow you to view of job ads listed under "Other Job Sites". This section is organized according to Specialty Job Sites, Placement Agencies, Government Jobs and is accessible from the "Quick Links" section of Job Bank's home page.

Registration
As part of this consolidation process we will be asking clients who have created accounts for BOTH Job Bank's Job Match AND with JobsEtc.ca for Job Alert, Resume Builder and / or the Career Navigator to merge these accounts by visiting jobbank.gc.ca and logging-on to their account. Users with only a JobsEtc.ca account who do not have a Job Bank (Job Match) account will logon as always, as will users with only a Job Bank account and no saved JobsEtc.ca information (Job Alert, Resume Builder, Career Navigator).
