Education

Graduation with a degree from a recognised school of medicine.

Experience

Broad based medical experience.

Clinical experience in the examination and management of patients experiencing:
- musculoskeletal problems
- mental health problems
- complex/multiple medical problems and
- geriatric health problems.

Experience working with computer systems, email, and internet.

Other Merit Criteria and Conditions of Employment

  • Applicants must demonstrate in their application that they meet the following merit criteria to be retained for further consideration.
    • You must have a valid license to practice medicine in British Columbia or licensed in another province or territory of Canada and eligible for immediate registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia for full practice medicine.
    • You must be a member in "good standing" with the College of Physicians and Surgeons in the province in which the candidate is currently licensed to practice.
    • You must possess clinical experience in the examination and management of patients experiencing: musculoskeletal problems, mental health problems, complex/multiple medical problems and geriatric health problems.
  • Conditions of employment:

Challenge

- Performs pension medical examinations, recommends changes in assessments and adjudicates in cases where there is no change.

- Participates as a member of the multi-disciplinary health care team and provides medical advice and consultation to the team.

- Conducts information sessions and individual case consultations with Departmental staff and, on occasion, external groups.

- Provides direction and training to authorized medical examiners.

- Authorizes Departmental health care benefits and services for pensioners relating to their pensioned conditions and to other clients as outlined in policy.

- Provides direction to and/or supervision of para-medical support staff.

- Interfaces and networks with veterans and other clients' organizations and community contacts including other physicians, health and medical related organizations and facilities.
