Education

Useful Information

Graduation with a degree from a recognized school of medicine.

Occupational Certification:
License to practice medicine in a province or territory of Canada. Must be eligible to obtain a license to practice in Alberta.

Experience

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION

Experience in the practice of occupational or community medicine.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

Recent clinical experience (general medicine or equivalent).

Experience in the assessment of patients with physical and mental disabilities.

Experience in the assessment of medical fitness to work.

Certification by the Canadian Board of Occupational Medicine or FRCP in Occupational Medicine or Community Medicine.

  • OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
    Occasional travel is required.
  • Extended work hours may be necessary.
  • CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
    • Willingness to undergo and successfully pass a reliability security clearance.
    • Possession of a valid driver’s license, or mobility equivalent to that of possessing a valid driver’s licence.
    • Licence to practice medicine in a province or territory of Canada.

Challenge

The Workplace Health and Public Safety Programme of Health Canada in Edmonton invites you to join our multi-disciplinary team of occupational health and safety professionals.

As Occupational Health Medical Officer, you will provide occupational health services to federal government employees and managers located throughout Alberta and the North-West Territories. The primary functions are to perform occupational health medical examinations and assessments for client organizations; provide medical advice to clients and to members of the multi-disciplinary team regarding medical assessments, health surveillance, infectious diseases and work site investigations; and, collaborate within the multi-disciplinary team to develop and implement service improvements.
