Education

Useful Information

  • Graduation from a recognized university relevant to the position.

Experience

Experience in providing at least three (3) of the following communications services:

1) strategic communications advice to clients;
2) project management;
3) media relations;
4) writing and editing;
5) advertising;
6) marketing
7) public opinion research coordination;
8) public and stakeholder consultations;
9) production and design;
10) publishing services; and
11) risk communications.

Experience in developing, and/or implementing, at least three (3) of the following communications products:

1) speaking notes or speeches;
2) backgrounders;
3) fact sheets;
4) news releases;
5) media lines;
6) questions and answers;
7) environmental scans;
8) media analyses;
9) brochures or promotional materials; and
10) information or media kits.

Experience in developing and implementing communications or marketing strategies.

Experience in providing advice to program officials and senior managers on the communications needs and/or implications of program or policy initiatives.

Experience in managing the communication demands of horizontal files, including stakeholder and partner coordination.

Other Merit Criteria and Conditions of Employment

  • The following merit criteria may be required for this position. Applicants should indicate in their application if they meet the merit criteria.
    • Graduation from a recognized university, with specialization in communications or journalism.
    • Experience in liaising with ministerial and regional contacts.
    • Experience in planning, coordinating and managing public events.
    • Experience in crisis and emergency communications.
    • Experience with communications on a national or regional scale.
    • Marketing: Experience in developing social marketing campaigns. Experience developing advertising campaigns and promotional materials.
    • Public involvement: Experience in planning and implementing multi-jurisdictional consultation processes.
    • Publishing: Experience in developing strategic publishing plans and/or processes.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Secret security clearance. This factor is not used at the preselection stage. The Department is responsible for the security clearance process.

Willingness to respond to urgent calls outside of working hours and willingness to periodically work overtime on short notice.
