Education

  • Graduation from a recognized university with a science degree in Geography, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Management, Agriculture, Engineering or another science degree related to the duties of the position.

Experience

Experience with a computer programming language such as C, C++, Java, Visual Basic (VB) or an acceptable equivalent.

Other Merit Criteria and Conditions of Employment

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with the ESRI suite of software.
- Experience in using MapServer or ESRI ArcIMS.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Willingness to work overtime
- Willingness to travel
- Valid driver's license or personal mobility to the degree associated with possession of a valid driver's license.

Work Environment

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada is dedicated to the well-being of all Canadians through the advancement of the agriculture and food sectors.

Challenge

Creates, revises, updates and documents GIS applications for use in analysis, planning, program delivery and evaluation primarily in the area of resource sustainability and rural development within in the region and in response to special circumstances and natural disasters (i.e. Avian Influenza, 1997 Red River Flood, Droughts, etc) in the branch mandate area.

Provides application development support for the development and maintenance of tools that establish GIS output products (i.e. maps, analysis, interpretation, table, etc) to AAFC staff and clients.
