Completion, by June 2007, of a Bachelor's Degree from a recognized university with an acceptable specialization in Meteorology OR in Physics WITH a Diploma or Certificate in Meteorology OR in Mathematics WITH a Diploma or Certificate in Meteorology OR a Bachelor's Degree from a recognized university in another scientific field WITH an acceptable number of courses in Meteorology and related subjects.

Regardless of the nature or field of the university degree mentioned above, the applicant's university transcript must include, as a minimum prerequisite, a combination of Meteorology, Physics and Mathematics courses which consist of:

. a minimum of 30 credits in Physics and Mathematics, or the equivalent of 10 courses of about 45 lecture hours each;
. a Dynamic Meteorology course;
. a Thermodynamic Meteorology course;
. a Synoptic Meteorology course;
. three other Meteorology related courses.

Other Merit Criteria and Conditions of Employment

  • ORGANIZATIONAL NEEDS

  • ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
    - Advanced Degrees (ex. :M.Sc., Ph.D.) in Meteorology or related to the field of Meteorology.
  • OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
    - Can be asked to work overtime.
  • CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
    - Reliability status.
    - Shift work (day, evening, night) on a 24/7 basis.
    - Mobility across Canada is a requirement of the job in order to respond to the Meteorological Service of Canada operational needs.
  • NOTE: Interested persons must demonstrate meeting each essential qualification and condition of employment to be appointed to a position. However, a person may be appointed to a position even though he or she does not meet the asset qualifications or organizational needs.

Challenge

The Meteorological Service of Canada is Canada’s source for meteorological information. Successful candidates will join our national team producing weather warnings and forecasts, and providing related services to our client groups including the general public, aviation community, Armed forces, and private business.

  • Depending on their work experience, successful candidates will undergo an intensive tailored training program.
