Education

Useful Information

Graduation with a degree from a recognized university with acceptable specialization in cultural resource management, history or another discipline relevant to the position.

Experience

Experience in planning, implementing and coordinating visitor services and heritage presentation programs to engage Canadians and other visitors in the enjoyment, understanding and appreciation of Canada's heritage resources;
Experience in developing operational objectives, performance standards and work plans;
Experience in supervision;
Experience in working with and consulting community organizations and representatives of other government departments, academic institutions, municipal governments, and local interest groups; &
Experience in revenue collection and management.

Other Merit Criteria and Conditions of Employment

Candidates must meet the Essential Qualifications to be appointed to the position. Candidates may be expected to meet, in whole or in part, the criteria related to the Assets, Operational Requirements and Organizational Needs, depending on the position being staffed.

  • CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
    An Enhanced Reliability Check is required for this position;
    The incumbent will be required to provide assistance at other National Historic Sites in the field unit;
    Possession of a valid class 05 driver's licence;
    Willingness to work evenings and weekends, and to travel; &
    Willingness to wear a Park's Canada uniform in the manner prescribed by the Parks Canada Clothing Manual.

Successful candidate(s) must meet and maintain the Conditions of Employment throughout their employment.

Security Clearance:
The department is responsible for the security clearance process.

Challenge

Responsible, under the guidance of the Manager, National Historic Sites, for the supervision of operations at both Ryan Premises and Castle Hill National Historic Sites of Canada as well as the HSMB plaqued sites in the area: to ensure provision of quality services for public appreciation, understanding and enjoyment in a safe, client sensitive and cost effective manner; to ensure protection of the Sites’ natural, cultural and contemporary assets; and to position the Sites as major contributors to the heritage tourism product within the Discovery Trail, Bonavista Peninsula, Avalon Gateway Tourism Association, and Road to the Shore destination areas.
