ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from a recognized university with a degree in archaeology or museology, or a degree in another related field with 2 years or more of experience in an archaeological collections management position.

* Proof of education will be required prior to appointment.

Experience

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Recent and significant experience:
 Analyzing archaeological information using computer databases;
 Archaeological fieldwork involving excavations and surveys; and
 Writing of archaeological reports.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• Willingness to undergo a Reliability Status security clearance.
• Possession of a valid Driver's license OR personal mobility to the extent normally associated with the possession of a valid Driver's license within the limits of the Treasury Board Policy.
• Travel and work irregular hours.
• Travel and work in remote wilderness locations.
• Ability to travel by boat, float plane, helicopter, off-road vehicle, or on foot to remote areas of parks, sites and marine conservation areas.
• Ability to handle and carry artifacts, soil and equipment up to the weight of 30 kg.

Work Environment

The Western and Northern Service Centre of the Parks Canada Agency is a network of professional and technical expertise established to support National Parks, National Historic Sites and National Marine Conservation Areas in Western and Northern Canada in the protection and presentation of cultural and natural resources.

Challenge

Reporting to the Cultural Resource Services Manager in Calgary the key duties of the position are:
Provide Alberta and British Columbia National Parks and National Historic Sites archaeological artifact collections and archaeological inventory management services. Undertake archaeological data input for National Parks and National Historic Sites resource management and planning needs. Maintain Alberta and British Columbia National Collections Management computerized database and other collections related databases. Assist with technical, security, upgrading, maintenance and service support of Archaeological Services' computers, computer programs and auxiliary equipment. Actively advise and train Service Unit staff, temporary staff, and field staff in database access and manipulation.
