Successful completion of Grade 12 secondary school education or a satisfactory score on the PSC test approved as an alternative to a secondary school diploma; or an acceptable combination of education, training and / or experience.

Occupational Certification

  • Applicants must demonstrate in their application that they meet the following merit criteria to be retained for further consideration.
    • Possession of a valid Province of Ontario Certificate of Qualification in the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Trade. Possession of an Ozone Depletion Prevention Certificate from the Ministry of Ontario
  • The following merit criteria may be required for this position. Applicants should indicate in their application if they meet the merit criteria.
    • Gas Fitter 2 Certificate.

Experience

Experience in heating, ventilation and air conditioning / refrigeration trade (HVACR)

Statement of Merit Criteria

Applicants who meet the above criteria will also be assessed against the Statement of Merit Criteria for this position.

Challenge

Installs, inspects, tests, troubleshoots, repairs and maintains Mechanical/Electrical equipment systems and components. Provides preventative maintenance and repairs to heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), compressed air and vacuum pump equipment and environmental systems. Installs, repairs and maintains air compressors and vacuum pumps. Maintains, tests, installs and aligns electrical motors, pulleys, pumps, fans and shafts and mechanical components. Orders material for repairs and maintenance. Provides repairs and maintenance to Ammonia ice plant equipment and control systems. Provides response and corrective action for urgent facility operational problems and environmental conditions complaints.
Provides maintenance and mechanical repair services to maintain optimum operating efficiency of air conditioning units.
Attends on site briefings and inspections of newly installed mechanical equipment/systems.

Additional Requirements / Comments

  • A pool of qualified candidates may be established and used to staff similar specified term and/or permanent vacancies.
  • Conditions of Employment Reliability Status Possession of an Ontario Class “G” driver’s license. (A driver’s abstract must be provided prior to appointment). Ability to obtain and maintain Departmental driver’s license DND 404. Must be willing to wear and/or utilize PPE equipment in compliance with safety regulations.
  • The person appointed must meet all the Essential Qualifications and Conditions of Employment and be administered the Oath before being appointed to the position. Administration of the Oath concerns individuals appointed from outside the public service.
